We are having a working bee at our school. Come along and meet other parents, enjoy a morning tea and a delicious lunch. Children are welcome also. For catering purposes please let the office know if you can assist, even if it is just for an hour or two.

All Saints and Holy Souls
All Saints Day is the day that we honour all of God's saints, even those who have not been canonized by the Church. It is a family day of celebration — we celebrate the memory of our family members and friends who have gone to meet God.  We rejoice that they have reached Heaven and pray for their happiness and for their help.

Lot's of excitement - have you sent your invitations, yet?

Summer poems by Room 6

Summer, summer it's the life.
You eat ice cream as soft as snow.
It's so yum you know.
On the beach crabs cradle on the sand.
I see surfers on the waves.
Cool I say because they are cool.

By Alana

Summer of waves making loud noises
umbrellas up while people bathing under them
melting ice cream on my chin
Mum yelling on the beach
eating roasted marshmallows
rabbits bouncing around
fun on the playground
umbrellas for shade
nice people to meet

Learning the Our Father

Today we were continuing our prayers from the Rosary. To learn it in a different way we watched a video on how to sign the Our Father. Everyone tried really hard hard to follow signing it. Fabulous job Room 6. Another way to learn the Our Father was each person saying two words at a time and going around the circle saying it without making any mistakes. It took a while to get all the way round but it was fun!

Turtle Safe Poem

This week we have been thinking what to do in an emergency if there was an earthquake. Our poem this week was about ‘Turtle Safe.’ We reminded ourselves again about drop, cover and hold.

Lexia

We have been analysing Lexia data and have discovered that some of our kids are working at levels that are too hard or too easy for them.  Lexia is not a competition and it is not a race to the end.  It is a programme that supports classroom learning and allows the kids to practice familiar skills as well as learn new ones.

Best learning occurs when we find our Goldilocks level - JUST RIGHT.  Many of our kids will have their Lexia reset, this week, to allow them to repeat the placement test.  This should put them at their 'just right' level.  We are discussing this with the kids so that they know what is happening and why - we don't want them to freak out!

It's probably a good time to remind you that Lexia should be largely independent. A little help and encouragement is wonderful but please don't do the thinking for them.  They're clever little cookies - they know how to do the work AND they know how to get you to do the work for them.  If you suspect that you might have done a little bit more 'helping' than was really necessary, please let us know.
